The forecast for this Saturday is for cool and rainy weather. Please note that the Saturday in the Apiary workshop is postponed and will take place Monday afternoon, June 11, from 5 to 7pm. Unfortunately, I cannot offer it on Saturday, June 16, because I have an event at the Madras Saturday Market. -Heike

Ready to check some colonies again? How are the queens performing in the splits we made up last month? A few colonies received treatment with MiteAway strips. We will do sugar rolls to measure mite infestation levels. Also, the supers need checking: are the bees drawing out the foundations? Do hives need another super? Apprentices in the Oregon Master Beekeeping Program can earn education points. RSVP required. Please email Heike Williams at heike.williams@oregonstate.edu for details and notification of possible changes. This event is weather dependent. Remember to bring your hat/veil/gloves. Looking forward to seeing you!

****** “Saturday in the Apiary” is a casual, loosely structured event intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting. We perform hive inspections, discuss colony management strategies for the month, and implement them. Everyone who is comfortable being around live honey bees is welcome. You would need to bring your own gear. This is a free event.

Save the dates (subject to change): Next Saturdays in the Apiary July 7, 2018 – 10 am to 12 pm in Redmond August 11, 2018 - whole day workshop on mite treatment, in Madras
